Freshers 2017!

Hello everybody! We hope you’re all settling in at Lancaster and are enjoying freshers week. We’re running things a little differently this year with our fresher training sessions.

The first training session for freshers will be Friday of the first week of term (the week after freshers week) we hope to see a lot of you there but we ask you to be patient with us as our first sessions are always our busiest.

No experience is required to shoot at these sessions and you only need to bring yourself! We hope to see a lot of you there!

If you want any more information we’ll be at freshers fair.

Cumbria H2H and end of novice training

Last weekend the club seniors competed in the cumbria world record status FITA 18 + head to head competition. The format of the competition involves shooting a qualifying round  (FITA 18  at  40cm 3 spot faces) in the morning. Then in the afternoon a head to head round, where each archer is paired with another, and shoot against each other to get through to the next round. Congratulations go to Lancaster’s Laura Hodgkinson for getting a 3rd place in both the FITA 18 and the head to head, also to long standing member Matt Wilkinson (shooting for bowbearers of Wrysdale) who came 2nd in the FITA 18 and 1st place in the head to head.

In further news the novice training sessions have now finished, and shooting has returned to normal. If you still wish to try archery please just send us an e-mail.

Freshers Fair and Tryouts

LUAC will be attending the university freshers fair tomorrow. We will be located in LICA building, from 12-5pm, so please come along and say hello and sign up 🙂

Also on Friday 4-6pm in the main sports hall we will be holding team tryouts, if you already have your own equipment and have experience shooting please come along and join us.

LUAC tryouts

LUAC will be holding team try-outs on Friday 4th October 4-6pm, in Lancaster sports centre’s main sports hall. The try-outs will consist of a full Portsmouth round, and is open to any student who has previous shooting experience and has a GNAS card (or a previous member of the club). The purpose of the try-outs is just to get an idea of the level people are currently shooting at, this gives us an idea of how strong a senior team we can field and how much senior development we need to invest in; it will not effect your chances of being selected to be part of the team.

we look forward to seeing you all there 🙂

Summer News

Despite being closed as a club for summer many of our members have still been shooting, with several regularly shooting at the local club Bowbearers of Wrysdale. Anybody who is in Lancaster over the summer and fancies doing a bit of extra shooting on Tuesdays and Thursdays follow the link to get more information.

A big congratulations is to be given to club member, and alumni Matt Wilkinson, who in the last few weeks achieved 1st place male in the Stafford 70M FITA and the Cheshire weekend’s FITA and York. Not only this but he also achieved the prestigious rank of Master Bowman with a score of 1232 in the Cheshire weekends FITA star.

Roses & EGM Results

After a fine day shooting, Lancaster University managed to secure an overall draw against York in the archery category, with both teams winning 5 points apiece. Lancaster’s success was based on a very strong novice team, which won all the novice categories. The senior team was only 6 points off York, with a superb score from Matt McCormack winning him the top senior male. The awards won by Lancaster were:

  • Top senior Male (Matt McCormack) – 1 point
  • Top Novice Male (Kim Andrews) – 1 point
  • Top Novice Female (Laura Hodgkinson) – 1 point
  • Top Novice Team (Laura Hodgkinson, Kate Wilhelm, Kim Andrews) – 2 points

In other news following the resignation of Matt McCormack as President an EGM took place on the 2nd of May to elect a new president. After a democratic vote, Christopher Woodhead was elected as the next president, for the 2013-14 academic year.
